Demand for RDSPs grows
Wednesday November 4 2009

The demand for Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP), introduced by the government to help Canadians with disabilities and their families save for the future, continues to grow.

More than 15,000 RDSPs have been registered, exceeding original projections.

Since RDSPs became available, the government has paid almost $50 million in grants and bonds to Canadians with disabilities, and to their families.

"The men and women who care for a child with a disability make incredible sacrifices and carry tremendous workloads in the name of love. We have a responsibility to help ensure that their kids lead lives as fulfilling as any other Canadian," said Prime Minister Stephen Harper. "That is why we introduced the Registered Disability Savings Plan, which will over time help enhance the quality of life for as many as half a million Canadians with disabilities."

For details on the RDSP, including a list of participating institutions, visit the Human Resources and Skills Development Canada site at www.disabilitysav ings.gc.ca or call 1 800 O-Canada (1-800 622-6232).
