Radha Academy of Carnatic Violin was invited to present a prelude to the show Tigers Temples and Mountains held recently at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga.

The Carnatic violin concert was presented by artistic director Subhadra Vijaykumar along with her students Arjun Venkat, Supreetha Guntur and Malini Vijaykumar, supported on the ghatam and the kanjira by Sandeep Sashikanth.

Vijaykumar explained to the large and appreciative mainstream audience how the Carnatic violin is identical to the western violin but differs from it in the playing position and in the tuning.

She also explained Carnatic music revolves around melody and rhythm, and the concept of raga and talas (rhythm).
