A Brampton
father is doing all he can to raise the $125,000 he needs to pay as ransom for
the release of his son, who has been kidnapped by Taliban guerrillas in
Pakistan’s troubled northern regions.
“Please
do help me release my son… they are cruel and have already killed a young man.
I am so worried about my son,” Bishan Dass told Focus.
Dass
said the terrorists, probably the Taliban, kidnapped his son Robin Singh, an IT
professional, on Feb 12 and now demanding Pak Rs10 million (C$125,000) as
ransom for Singh’s release.
For
centuries, northwestern Pakistan has been home to a strong community of Sikhs.
Reports
from Pakistan say that as a new pressure-building strategy, terrorists this
month kidnapped at least three Sikhs, including Robin Singh, for ransom, and
have since beheaded one of them.
Dass
said his two sons Rajan Singh and Robin Singh are residents of Peshawar. Robin
went missing Feb 12 while returning from work.
“Four
days later my son Rajan received a call in which the caller said: ‘Your brother
is with us.’ Two days later Rajan received another call in which the kidnappers
demanded Pak Rs10 million for Robin’s release.
“Now we
are so worried, what will happen?” said Dass.
The
distraught Dass has now opened an account in CIBC and is pleading with the community
to donate funds, towards his son’s early release.
