Khalsa Day parade May 2
Wednesday March 3 2010
By SURJIT SINGH FLORA

The annual Sikh Khalsa Day parade from Malton Gurdwara to the Rexdale Gurdwara will this year be held Sunday, May 2.

The Sikh community celebrates the Khalsa festival to educate other Canadians about the faith and ensure the culture is kept alive by new generations of Canadian-born Sikhs.

This year, senior community members have urged the Ontario Gurdwara and Sikh Council, the Ontario Gurdwara Committee and other organizations to work together for the welfare of the community, and to solve the pressing problems of violence and drug abuse among sections of our youth.

Community members have urged the various organizations to pool their resources to effectively inculcate the proper tenets and culture amongst the younger generations, and to showcase Sikh culture to all residents of Canada.

This year Vaisakhi, the biggest festival for the Sikh and Punjabi communities, comes on Tuesday, April 14.

The festival is celebrated with great fervour and goodwill at every Sikh temple around the world.
