Holi was celebrated by temples, community organizations and private groups throughout the GTA last weekend.
Celebrations were led by Brampton's Hindu Sabha Mandir and Mississauga's Ram Mandir.
"For Hindus around the world, Holi is a time to mark the ultimate triumph of good over evil," said Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, in a statement.
"In Canada, Holi is celebrated by Hindus and non-Hindus alike. By bringing different faith and cultural communities together, and spreading a message of peace and friendship, it is a celebration that can truly serve to strengthen our country.
"For all Canadians, this important festival provides an excellent opportunity to reflect on the tremendous contributions that Hindus have made to this country's rich and diverse heritage," he added.
Several groups held celebrations, among these being Agarwals Based in Canada, who celebrated Holi at Hindu Cultural Centre (6300 Mississauga Road), and KC Group, which held its annual celebration under the Rang Barse 2010 banner.
While the traditional Holika burning and gulal and rangoli were in evidence, as was the singing and dancing, a number of groups also offered thandai, the traditional drink made from milk, dry fruits and other ingredients, to make for a heady brew to usher in spring.
