The Consulate General of India, Toronto, in partnership with apex ethno-cultural organization Panorama India, invites all members of the public to join in the celebrations of India Day 2013, being held this year Saturday, Aug 10, at Yonge-Dundas Square.
The action starts at 10am and goes on right through the day to 8pm.
India celebrates her 67th Independence Day in Toronto Aug 15. This is the 14th year of Panorama India’s existence, and its ninth such parade.
The celebrations will include the traditional flag-hoisting, followed by the annual parade, and a string of programs highlighting the cultural diversity of the various states in India — which yet again underlines the theme, unity in diversity.
The flag-hoisting ceremony has been scheduled for 11.45am. The High Commissioner of India as well as the Consul General of India are expected to be present for the ceremony.
The parade depicting the various states of India will commence shortly after the flag raising.
There will also be many food stalls along with other vendors selling their wares.
Panorama India, a not-for-profit umbrella organization established in 1999, helps promote unity in diversity by bringing together and showcasing the various cultures of India.
“Our mandate — Educate, Celebrate and Collaborate — informs Canadians about our culture, teaches tolerance and instills pride in Indo-Canadians,” says Chair Jibanjit Tripathy. “We collaborate with most regional Indian cultural organizations in Canada as well as with various cultural schools in Canada to showcase our culture and the talent of Indo-Canadians.”
