KST lifts tennis ball cricket trophy
Wednesday September 2 2009

KST (Karnataka Sangha Toronto) Warriors emerged worthy 2009 champions after beating a spirited DMG (Dhamaal Masti Group) in the finals of the annual CHHC Tennis Ball 20Twenty cricket tournament last month.

The tournament, organized by the Canadian Hindu Heritage Centre, this year had nine teams from Mississauga and Brampton participating.

Over the last three months, spectators and players witnessed the great game of cricket being played with enthusiasm in a spirit of brotherhood among communities.

The final match was played between the best teams of the tournament, KST Warriors and DMG.

DMG had entered the finals by winning the semis against Brampton Warriors while KST Warriors beat KST Challengers in the other semifinals. DMG was unbeaten throughout the tournament while KST Warriors had lost just one game in the league matches.

DMG captain Aniruddh won the toss and elected to bat first. The team made 130 in their allotted 20 overs, with Mehul being the only bowler to get the DMG batsmen on their back foot with his tight leg-spinners. The KST cause was not helped by some key dropped catches either.

However, a score of 130 seemed an easily achievable target, given the strong KST batting lineup, but DMG had other plans and picked up two wickets in the very first over.

KST recovered, but the see-saw battle came right down to the wire, with 12 runs required off the final over. It was nerve-wracking stuff, but KST held their nerve to eke out an exciting victory off the very last ball. The prizes were distributed by CHHC president Pandit Roopnauth Sharma of Mississauga Ram Mandir.
