Brampton Cricket League wrapped up its first season on a successful note at the Cassie Campbell Cricket Ground last weekend.

In the final, all-rounder Abdol Rahim helped Island Boyz Cricket Club thrash Challengers Cricket Club by seven wickets to lift the BCL 2009 trophy.

Rahim was declared Man of the Match for sending Challengers' three key players back to the pavilion and hammering a classic half-century in the rain-hit final match of the season.

Batting first after winning the toss, Challengers scored 168 runs all out in 43 overs.

Avneet Singh (41) and Brahmjot Singh (37 runs) were the main contributors for the Challengers while Ryan Pittman and Abdool Rahim shared three wickets each for 28 and 35 runs respectively for the Island Boyz.

In reply, the Boyz hit up the required 169 to win in the 28th over for the loss of a mere three wickets.

Rahim remained not out at 52. Agampreet Singh grabbed 2 wickets for 39 runs.

Muhammad Sham and Denny Eapen officiated at the final.

Sponsored by Easy Way Financials, BCL president Faraz Saleem later presented the winning trophy and $2,000 cash prize to the captain of Island Boyz Cricket Club.

Saleem thanked everyone involved, including the officials, players, volunteers and management for their support in hosting a successful 2009 season.

He pledged to hold an improved second season in 2010.
