Say Bollywood!

Gifting ideas for the Bollywood buff on your list

South Asian Focus

With the holidays around the corner and the new year upon us, you’re likely making your gifting list and working diligently through it.

Your Sports Enthusiast — check.

Your Gamer — check.

Your Fashionista — check.

And then you hit your Bollywood Fanatic and find yourself at a roadblock.

After all, it’s not like you can hit the local mall and pick up a Chulbul Pandey life-size doll.

If this person has you stumped, don’t worry. As the wise Munnabhai once said: “Tension lene ka nahin, sirf dene ka!”

Make Them A Star!

What film lover doesn’t want to see their face on the poster of their favourite film? A great way to personalize and create a truly unique gift for your Bollywood buff is a caricature. You can usually find an artist in a busy mall or Google one close to your area.

Once you’ve narrowed down their all-time favourite Bollywood hit, grab a good screenshot and print it out. Then find a few pictures of the person themselves to give the artist some options when they sit down to create your masterpiece. If you want to take it up a notch, add in their significant other for a couple’s shot like something from DDLG or Bunty Aur Bubly. You can also add in your own humorous lines to complete the customization. Google “caricature bollywood movie poster” and you’ll know what we mean!

It’s Movie Night

Give them the gift of endless entertainment with a DVD gift set. People are so used to downloading what they want to watch when they want to watch it, but finding your favourite Bollywood hit is sometimes harder than it seems. Hit up a Hindi video store and take some time to assemble the perfect set. You can go for your Bollywood fan’s favourite actor or actress' hits, or maybe they’re into a specific genre. You can also look at going time period-specific or providing a mix of the all-time best Hindi films. Here’s a list of “Films You Must See Before You Die” from Times of India to help you along!

  1. Mughal-e-Azam
  2. Anand
  3. Sholay
  4. Masoom
  5. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
  6. Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro
  7. Golmaal
  8. Lagaan
  9. Damini
  10. Kahaani

A Little Bit of This, A Little Bit of That

Although you can’t always find what you’re looking for locally, don’t forget the power of the web! Getting online and searching out some great gift options can be done over lunch and you’ll be in the clear before you know it! A few things to keep in mind are delivery times, as you don’t want your filmy fan presentless on gift day, and also to take the time to review the site you’re ordering from before you move ahead.

There are tons of things to choose from once you’re online. Choose from clothes to accessories to show pieces!

You can go simple with an 'I Love Bollywood' mug in addition to a larger basket that can include your favourite Masala Chai, some delectable desserts and a framed picture of their favourite Bollywood actor or actress.

Then there are the multitude of graphic T-shirts to choose from! You can go from something as simple as a picture of their favourite hero to something specific like a line from their favourite movie. Go to and look for Bollywood T-shirts and mugs.

Bollywood on the Go

One thing your Bollywood devotee is likely never without is their phone, so why not add a touch of Bollywood to the one thing that is always by their side! You can choose from a multitude of phone covers, ranging from images to designs to quotes and film posters. Add on an iTunes gift card and encourage them to purchase their favourite Bollywood ringtones.

It’s Not A Toy!

OK, so the Bay may not carry a Shah Rukh Khan doll, but that doesn’t mean you can't find one! What could be a better gift for a true Bollywood enthusiast than a doll of their favourite characters? A popular line known as the Bollywood Legends collections ranges from SRK to Amar Khan to Kajol and the Big B himself!

If you’d like to have a little more fun, you can order Bollywood bobbleheads as well. Put together a little set from their favourite movie, including your hero, heroine and daku of course, or choose a range of characters that their favourite actor has played, like Don, Coolie and Shahenshah for example. Look for Bollywood bobblehead dolls on

Let’s Go To the Movies

If you know that your Bollywood addict is always first in line to see the latest films, good or bad, then arm them with their movie passes for the year ahead! Now, currently Wikipedia is showing the anticipated release of 49 films from Bollywood in 2017, but the trick is to go through the list and figure out what resonates best. Choose the films that are in a genre that they prefer, or perhaps ones with their favourite actors or actresses. Many of the larger movies are released in mainstream theatres across Ontario, so getting them a Cineplex or AMC gift card to cover about a movie a month, plus snacks, should get them pumped for releases to come!

Choose a gift for that special Bollywood aficionado based on the time you have left to find it, your desired budget and of course their level of love for everything Bollywood.
